Oil means anointing of the spirit. In the Old testerment of the bible, the oil was meant to be used to anoint princes and kings, not for everybody. In the new testerment, anointing is for those that have come into Jesus, for as long as you are in Christ, you have access to the rights of both the princes and the kings I.e you are anointed Rev1vs6.
As Princes and kings, we should never lack oil on our heads because we won't be able to function rightly. In Exodus29:7, the oil is for your head so that it will be able to flow.God gave Moses some instructions when Aaron was anointed as priest in verse 5, there were several accessories that should be given to a priest but what crowned it all was the oil. There was something about this oil that separated the Priests from the congregation.
*NB: The anointing varies and it has the spirit of the Lord which is used to mark you.1sam16vs12-13
Significance of the oil.
1. The oil consecrates, sanctifies, dedicates and separates you from others. You are not meant to think as the way world does.. Anointing is not what we can see.Its source is the spirit God. 1Sam10:1,Saul was anointed.
2. You need oil to carry out your Kingly and Princely function.
In Luke4:18 Jesus has the oil. He was anointed, therefore you need the oil to fulfill your purpose.
3. It saves you from judgement Number12:1-10.
4. The oil is required to always keep your lamp burning Matt 25vs1-5.
5. Sin causes the oil to dry. In Numbers20:25 Aaron was stripped of his garment and he died, while Saul, the spirit of the Lord departed from him because of sin.
Consequences of the head lacking oil.
1. It brings dryness
2. The presence of the Lord withdraws
3. Lack of life. Psalm51:11-12, 2Sam11:1-3.
The difference between David and Saul was that David recognized his sin against God and ask for forgiveness, else, he would have lost his life like Saul's.
4. Inability to function
5. Inability to fulfill purpose.
6. Exposure to judgement.
NB: you can only keep the oil fresh by dwelling in his presence,Psalm27:4-6. David seek to dwell in the presence of the Lord. Fellowship with him Psalm92:10-14. When you dwell in presence of the Lord then you shall flourish and your head will never lack oil.
